# Hardware cryptocurrency wallets

Hardware wallets are a physical device. They provide an added layer of protection as the wallet’s private key is not stored in your browser or even on your machine - it is stored on the hardware device itself. [Trezor](https://trezor.io/) is a widely-used hardware wallet, and it supports most major cryptocurrencies, including all [ERC20 tokens](/legacy-documentation/community-resources/using-the-energy-web-chain/token-bridge.md#erc-20-token-standard) and[ Energy Web Token](https://trezor.io/coins/#EWT). We provide direction on how to connect your Trezor Hardware Wallet to MetaMask here (link), and to a local node of the blockchain here(link)
